TOVEN Candles began quite simply: with a love of fragrance, a curiosity about how things are made, and a desire to create candles that feel a little different from the mass-produced ones found on the high street.

I’ve always enjoyed making things. Before TOVEN, much of my working life was spent in the world of craft brewing, where small changes in ingredients can completely alter the character of the finished product. Candle making turned out to have a surprising amount in common with brewing — experimenting with ingredients, testing different combinations and trying to get every little detail just right.

What started as an interest soon became TOVEN Candles.Today I create candles and wax melts using carefully chosen fragrances and eco-friendly plant waxes. I particularly enjoy scents with a little character — fresh citrus, herbs, coffee, the sea, grasses and botanicals, alongside the warmer and more familiar fragrances we all love.

For me, a candle should be about more than simply making a room smell nice. Fragrance can remind us of places, seasons and moments we may not have thought about for years. The smell of freshly cut grass, coffee brewing in the morning or the salty air beside the sea can instantly take us somewhere else.

That is very much the idea behind TOVEN.

I’m not trying to create a huge range of candles or follow every passing trend. I’d rather make a smaller collection of fragrances that I genuinely like, spend time getting them right, and offer something that feels a little more individual.

TOVEN is a small independent business, so every order really does matter. When you buy from us, you’re not buying from a large anonymous company — you’re supporting someone who has chosen the fragrance, tested the candle, designed the label, taken the photographs and packed your order.
